If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend that you dive into this book. And don’t worry, this book won’t turn you into a monk…  it’s just not that easy to become a monk!  In fact, Jay Shetty used to be a monk in an ashram in India, and discovered he wanted to take what he learned and make it accessible to help everyone so they can live more meaningful lives without having to commit to becoming a monk.  This book is very easy to read and is written in a conversational tone.

Jay Shetty is on a mission to help everyone align their passion with their purpose so that we can lead meaningful and joyful lives.  To get there, you need to get rid of the noise that our minds generates and gets in the way of us living purposefully. The book is divided into three section : Let Go, Grow and Give.

We begin by learning how to deal with anger, fear and overthinking and how to release our expectations that aren’t serving us.  Then, the books provides practical advice to work on mindfulness, gratitude, relationships and being of service to others. The book includes many short and some longer suggested activities to help you get there.

A few years ago, I was lucky enough to be coached by a Zen monk. It was an amazing experience in learning how to notice, be aware and then act in the best interest of serving others and solving problems.  While reading a book is not the same as receiving coaching, some of the suggested exercises in the book are similar to exercises I did through my coaching.  This is a book that everyone would benefit from reading and potentially reading more than once over the span of a few years to check-in on whether they have adopted Jay’s teachings.
